Easy Same-Day Chocolate Chip Sourdough Bread | Beginner-Friendly No-Fuss Recipe

This easy same-day chocolate chip sourdough bread is perfect for beginners. You can use active sourdough starter OR sourdough discard, and there’s no need to time feedings, no stretch and folds, and no banneton required. Just mix, rest, shape, and bake — all in one day. This small boule is soft on the inside, lightly crisp on the outside, and filled with melty chocolate chips. It’s a simple, no-stress way to bake sourdough at home, even if you’re brand new to sourdough.

Easy Same-Day Chocolate Chip Sourdough Bread

Ingredients:

85 grams sourdough starter (unfed/hungry OR active) 1/3 cup

200 grams room temperature water ¾ cup

325 grams all-purpose or bread flour 2 ½ cup

8 grams salt 1 ½ tsp

85 grams chocolate chips ½ c

Instructions:

1.    Measure all ingredients by weight (grams) using a kitchen scale, zeroing the scale after each addition.

2.    Add starter and water to a bowl and mix.

3.    Add flour and salt. Stir until well combined, about 3 minutes.

o   Dough may seem dry at first — keep mixing.

o   Use your hands to fully incorporate the flour.

4.    Cover and let bulk ferment 3–12 hours.

5.    Pour the chocolate chips evenly over the dough in the bowl.

6.    Shape the dough in the bowl by pulling the edges toward the center, folding the chocolate chips inside, until a smooth round ball forms.

o   The dough will change from stretchy to tight.

7.    Cover and let rest 1 hour, or refrigerate until ready to bake.

o   Dough can be baked straight from the refrigerator.

8.    Lightly flour and score the dough.

9.    Place dough into a cold 5-quart Dutch oven using a trivet or dough sling.

10.       Place in the oven, set temperature to 450°F (230°C), and bake 45 minutes with the lid on.

11.       Remove lid, reduce oven to 425°F (220°C), and bake 5–8 minutes,    until browned.

12.       Remove loaf from Dutch oven and cool completely before slicing.

13.       Store in a beeswax bread bag for best texture.
