Make this super soft and moist Christmas gingerbread right in your bread machine! A cozy holiday recipe using butter, oil, molasses, and warm spices. Your whole house will smell amazing. Perfect for Christmas morning, gifting, or festive snacking. 🎄

Homemade Gingerbread in the Bread Machine

    • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted & slightly cooled (56 g)
    • ¼ cup oil (60 ml)
    • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
    • ¾ cup milk (175 ml)
    • ¼ cup molasses (57 ml)
    • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 1 cup packed light brown sugar (215 g)
    • 2 cups all-purpose flour (240 g) or 215 g fresh milled soft white wheat
    • 2 teaspoons ground ginger (6 g)
    • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon (4.5 g)
    • ½ teaspoon ground cloves (1 g)
    • ½ teaspoon salt (3 g)
    • 1 teaspoon baking powder (4 g)
    • 1 teaspoon baking soda (5 g)

Optional Topping: Confectioners’ sugar (for dusting after cooling) or simple glaze

  1. Add ingredients to the bread machine in order listed.
  2. Select the Cake, Quick Bread, or Batter cycle.
(Do NOT use the yeast/bread cycle.)
  3. Start the machine and allow it to mix and bake.
  4. When the cycle ends, test the center with a toothpick:
    • If it comes out with wet batter, use the Bake Only setting for an additional 10–15 minutes.
  5. Allow the gingerbread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack.
  6. Once fully cooled, dust lightly with confectioners’ sugar.
