Country White One-Hour Sandwich Bread
To make 1 loaf:
- 1 cup warm milk (240 g)
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted (57 g)
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons brown or white sugar (40 g)
- 2 1/2 teaspoons yeast (8 g)
- 3 1/2 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour (440 g)
- 1 teaspoon salt (6 g)
To make 2 loaves:
- 2 cups warm milk (480 g)
- 8 tablespoons butter, melted (114 g)
- 2 eggs
- 6 tablespoons brown or white sugar (80 g)
- 5 teaspoons yeast (16 g)
- 7 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour (880 g)
- 2 teaspoons salt (12 g)
*Divide this dough and place into 2 loaf pans.
Instructions
Add the milk, butter, egg, sugar, yeast, flour, and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer.
Knead for 6 minutes. (You can also hand knead for 10 mins)
Press the dough out slightly, shape into a loaf, and place into a well-oiled 8.5 × 4.5 loaf pan (or 9x5).
Let the dough rise in the pan for 20 minutes. Placing the pan on top of the oven while it preheats helps the dough rise faster. If your kitchen is cooler, the rise may take slightly longer. The dough should be peaking just over the edge of the pan.
Bake at 350°F for 28–30 minutes.
Remove the loaf from the pan immediately, brush the top with melted butter, and cover with a tea towel to cool. This helps create the softest crust.
For the best crumb and clean slices, allow the bread to cool before slicing.
Enjoy your one-hour homemade bread!

Made your 1 hour bread today. It turned out so good. Thank you for sharing.
OMG!! I finally found the bread recipe that works for me. I just made this and it was soooo easy. The house smells amazing and the bread is delicious. I have a question. You said we could use all purpose flour, which is cheaper for me to use, but what if I added some dry milk powder. Would that help it out some for the texture? Thank you so much. I have your website saved in my favorites.
