
Whipped Cream Icing Recipe for American Flag Cake

This American Flag Cake is both patriotic and festive! It's been part of my family's Independence Day tradition since I was a little girl, and now my kids enjoy making it together every 4th of July! You can get fancy and make a homemade cake, or use a boxed cake mix. Then simply ice with white frosting (even cool whip for no work), and decorate into a flag using whole blueberries for the stars and sliced strawberries (or whole raspberries) for the stripes.
This is the whipped cream icing we like to use, which is basically homemade whipped cream, but with a touch more sweetness. It's is light and refreshing on this summertime cake.
Whipped Cream Icing Recipe
Combine 2 cups cold heavy whipping cream, 6 Tbs granulated sugar, 2 tsp vanilla into a mixing bowl. Beat together using an electric whisk until soft peaks form, about 3 minutes. Spread over a cake, and decorate with strawberries and blueberries for a fun, patriotic Independence Day Flag Cake!
